<aside> 🇺🇸 Enrolled Agents must complete 72 hours of Continuing Education (CE) credits every three years to maintain their status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Earmark is an IRS-Approved Continuing Education Partner, so you can be sure that our courses fulfill the IRS requirements for Continuing Education credits.

To report your CE credits to the IRS, please enter your Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) into your Profile in the app. If you do not enter your PTIN, Earmark will not report your CE credits.

Can I enter my PTIN into Earmark CPE later?

Yes, you can enter your PTIN into Earmark CPE at any time. To do this, simply follow the steps outlined above.

However, we only report CE to the IRS for users who have already entered their PTIN into their profile. We report on a quarterly basis at a minimum. We do not automatically update these records retroactively.

If you would like us to report CE for courses completed before you entered your PTIN, please contact [email protected].

Why don’t I see my CE credits in the IRS portal?

We submit course completion information monthly, and weekly during the month of December. Therefore any credits you earn during a month will be visible in your IRS portal in the first week of the following month.

If you believe that we have failed to report a course completion, please let us know at [email protected].

What is a PTIN?

A PTIN is a Preparer Tax Identification Number. It is assigned to all paid tax preparers by the IRS. It is used to identify individuals who prepare tax returns for compensation.
